Global Call to Address Indian Transnational Repression

The Baku Initiative Group and Sikh Federation International have released a 58-page report alleging patterns of Indian transnational repression targeting Sikh communities living abroad. The document details reported incidents of intimidation, surveillance and pressure tactics against members of the Sikh diaspora in multiple countries.

The report, researched and drafted by Prabjot Singh, legal counsel for the Sikh Federation, was prepared jointly by both organisations. It presents what the authors describe as fact-based evidence of systematic pressure mechanisms implemented by the Indian Government against Sikhs and other ethnic groups outside India.

Authors say the evidence points to coordinated efforts that undermine the rights and security of diaspora communities, and they call for greater international awareness and dialogue to address alleged transnational repression. The publication is presented as a contribution to ongoing discussions on the protection of civil liberties across borders.

A launch event in Geneva brought together the Director General of the Geneva Press Club, experts in international law, human rights defenders and representatives of major media organisations including the BBC and AFP, alongside other journalists. Those attending discussed the legal and human rights implications raised by the report and urged heightened scrutiny.

For Pakistani audiences the findings underscore the broader regional significance of diaspora safety and civil liberties. The report invites governments, media and civil society in Pakistan and beyond to engage with the issues raised and consider measures that safeguard vulnerable communities abroad.

The Baku Initiative Group and Sikh Federation International say the report aims to prompt international dialogue and practical steps to counter alleged instances of Indian transnational repression and to strengthen protections for the Sikh diaspora and other affected groups.
