Ulema, Mashaikh Reaffirm Support for Armed Forces, Honour Martyrs
Islamabad, July 17, 2026: A meeting of ulema and mashaikh, chaired by Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, expressed support for the state’s positive measures aimed at peace, religious harmony, social stability and national security.
Speaking at the meeting, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf said Pakistan had earned immense respect after Maarka-e-Haq. He said the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Hafiz Syed Asim Munir for peace had been appreciated across the world, while India’s false propaganda had been defeated.
The minister said the Armed Forces of Pakistan were offering sacrifices in defence of the homeland, adding that religious scholars had gathered to acknowledge these sacrifices. He said ulema had always remained at the forefront in safeguarding the ideological frontiers of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The participants pledged to continue extending full cooperation to the Government of Pakistan in every positive step and reaffirmed their commitment to the supremacy of the Constitution and the strengthening of state institutions.
They paid tribute to the efforts of the Armed Forces of Pakistan for peace, stability and national unity and announced their unwavering support for them.
The ulema and mashaikh also expressed complete solidarity with the government and security forces against terrorism, extremism and subversive activities. They honoured the sacrifices of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies and security forces for peace and stability in Pakistan.
According to the declaration issued after the meeting, the entire Pakistani nation remains indebted to the great sacrifices of the martyrs and ghazis. It said there was no room in Islam for terrorism, extremism, sectarianism and violence.
The declaration stated that Islam is a religion of peace, moderation, tolerance and respect for human life, and that every act harming the peace of the state, society and the people is condemnable.
The ulema and mashaikh appealed to scholars of all schools of thought to promote national unity and religious harmony. They said the national narrative against terrorism would be highlighted through sermons, lectures and religious gatherings.
The declaration also stressed the need to make joint scholarly, religious and social efforts more effective to protect the younger generation from extremist ideologies, hateful material and misleading propaganda.
The meeting was attended by Dr Sajjad Qamar, Qari Mehboobur Rehman, Maulana Zulfiqar, Maulana Abdul Qadir Sikandari, Maulana Ayub Ansari, Maulana Iqbal Abbasi, Maulana Dr Munir Ahmed, Maulana Dr Muhammad Saleem Saeedi, Maulana Syed Jahangir Shah Saeedi, Maulana Dr Saeedur Rehman, Maulana Abu Bakr Siddiq, Maulana Dr Hafizur Rehman, Allama Sajjad Naqvi, Allama Akhtar Abbas, Maulana Waqas Majeed, Maulana Mujeebur Rehman, Maulana Aneesur Rehman, Qari Muhammad Siddiq and Maulana Hassan Farooq.
Acting Secretary Religious Affairs Dr Mirza Ali Mehsud, Director Misbahur Rehman, Deputy Director Quran Dr Shahidur Rehman, Muhammad Khaleeq, Dr Mehboob Usman and other officials also participated.
The ulema and mashaikh also prayed for the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs, early recovery of the injured and the protection of the country from all internal and external threats.
