PIMS 200-Bed Emergency Centre Enters Final Stage as Mustafa Kamal Reviews Work
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Mustafa Kamal visited the 200-bed New Emergency Centre at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), which is nearing completion, and reviewed the final preparations for making the facility operational.
During the visit, the hospital administration briefed the minister on the progress of the project, the medical facilities being arranged and the different stages of completion.
Officials informed Mustafa Kamal that the state-of-the-art emergency centre had entered its final phase before becoming functional. The minister directed the authorities concerned to ensure that cleaning, finishing and technical work were completed in line with the highest quality standards.
Referring to the growing patient load at PIMS, the minister said the early operationalisation of the new emergency centre had become an urgent requirement. He instructed the relevant officials to speed up the remaining work and open the facility to the public at the earliest.
Mustafa Kamal also directed that the process for completing the project’s PC-4 documentation be accelerated so that there were no delays.
The minister was informed that the new emergency centre would include a 30-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), a 10-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), two modern operation theatres and two minor operation theatres. The facility is expected to considerably strengthen the hospital’s emergency and critical care capacity.
Speaking on the occasion, Mustafa Kamal said the government was taking practical steps to provide timely and quality emergency healthcare services to citizens. He added that the establishment of the modern emergency centre at PIMS would be an important milestone in improving emergency medical services and strengthening the public healthcare system in Pakistan.
Later, the federal health minister visited the Pediatric Emergency Centre at PIMS, established with the support of the ChildLife Foundation, and reviewed the healthcare services being provided to children.
He reaffirmed that the provision of timely, quality and safe healthcare services to children was among the government’s top priorities. The minister said no negligence or shortcomings in pediatric healthcare would be tolerated and assured that all possible resources would be used to provide children with the best available medical treatment.
Mustafa Kamal reiterated the commitment of the Ministry of National Health Services to improving the performance of public sector hospitals and ensuring better healthcare services for all citizens.
