US Congressional Delegation Visits ISSI for In-House Dialogue

ISLAMABAD: The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) on July 27, 2026, hosted an in-house discussion with a visiting United States Congressional delegation, marking the first-ever visit of a US Congressional delegation to the institute.

The delegation comprised Rep. Ryan Zinke and Rep. Michael Baumgartner, accompanied by Mr Graham Gunter, Legislative Assistant to Rep. Ryan Zinke, and Mr Harris Cull, Legislative Aide to Rep. Baumgartner.

The US delegation was received by ISSI Board of Governors Chairman Ambassador Khalid Mahmood and ISSI Director General Ambassador Moin Ul Haque.

During the meeting, Ambassador Moin Ul Haque briefed the delegation on ISSI and its work. He also expressed the desire to develop stronger institutional linkages between ISSI and the US Congress, as well as American think tanks.

The participants exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, including Pakistan-US relations. The discussion focused on economic cooperation, educational and cultural exchanges, and wider geopolitical developments in the region.

The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Masood Khalid, Pakistan’s former Ambassador to China; Ambassador Masood Khan, Pakistan’s former Ambassador to the US; Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, former Foreign Secretary of Pakistan and Pakistan’s former Ambassador to the US; and Ambassador Asif Durrani, Pakistan’s former Special Representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan’s former Ambassador to Iran.
