ISLAMABAD, July 30, 2026: The National Highways and Motorway Police foiled an attempt to smuggle a large cache of weapons on the M-5 Motorway near Rohri and arrested two suspects, a spokesperson said.
According to the Motorway Police spokesperson, a suspicious car was signalled to stop for over-speeding, but the occupants ignored clear stop signals at three different points and attempted to flee.
The Motorway Police pursued the vehicle in a professional manner and intercepted it near Rohri. During the search, officials recovered 14 SMG rifles, one shotgun, 19 thirty-bore pistols, four 9mm pistols, more than 18,000 rounds of different calibres, 46 extra SMG magazines, 43 extra pistol magazines, four telescopes and five mobile phones from the vehicle.
The spokesperson said the suspects were transporting the arms consignment from Peshawar to interior Sindh.
The arrested men were identified as Ubaidullah and Abdullah, belonging to Peshawar and Kohat, respectively.
The suspects, along with the recovered weapons and ammunition, were handed over to the relevant district police for further legal proceedings, the spokesperson added.
