Gilani, Tariq Fazal discuss stronger Senate-ministry coordination

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry called on Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani at his residence in Islamabad on Friday and discussed issues relating to parliamentary affairs, the legislative process and coordination between the Upper House and the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

According to a press release issued by the Senate Secretariat Media Directorate, matters of mutual interest also came under discussion during the meeting.

Both sides agreed to further enhance cooperation for strengthening the role of parliamentary institutions and reinforcing the democratic process.

Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said effective coordination between Parliament and the government was necessary to facilitate the legislative process and ensure timely progress on matters of public importance. He also stressed the need to improve cooperation and institutional support for the smooth conduct of parliamentary business.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry assured the Chairman Senate of the ministry’s complete cooperation and support in matters concerning parliamentary affairs.

The two leaders expressed their resolve to maintain close and effective coordination between the Senate and the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs to help advance legislative and other parliamentary business in an orderly manner. They also agreed to continue joint efforts to uphold the dignity of Parliament and improve its effective functioning.
