Pakistan Selected for Global Childhood Cancer Medicines Program Starting 2025

Islamabad: A delegation from the Global Platform for Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines (GPACC) met with Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal to discuss Pakistan’s participation in a landmark international initiative. The delegation included representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO) headquarters and the renowned St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Minister Mustafa Kamal expressed his pride over Pakistan’s selection for the 2025 rollout of this global program, calling it a significant milestone in the country’s healthcare development. He stated that the initiative will ensure free access to childhood cancer medicines across the country starting next year.

“This is a proud moment for us,” Kamal said. “Pakistan’s inclusion in this program is a testament to our commitment to addressing childhood cancer. I extend heartfelt congratulations to everyone who made this possible.”

Kamal emphasized that Pakistan must fully leverage the resources and support offered by the GPACC to maximize impact. He highlighted the urgency of the initiative by noting that over 8,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year in Pakistan, and many of them lose their lives due to lack of access to essential medicines.

“The timely and effective treatment of children suffering from cancer remains a major challenge,” Kamal added. “Through GPACC, Pakistan can tap into global resources to address local challenges and save young lives.”
