China’s Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) — nicknamed the “Artificial Sun” — has achieved a world record by maintaining a plasma temperature of 100 million degrees Celsius for 1,056 seconds (17 minutes and 36 seconds).
This temperature is several times hotter than the core of the actual Sun and represents a groundbreaking milestone in the global pursuit of controlled nuclear fusion — a clean, virtually limitless energy source. The achievement marks a significant leap toward commercial fusion power, promising future energy systems that are safe, sustainable, and carbon-free.
