Senate Interior Committee Presents Key Legislative Reports, Proposes Amendments to Criminal and Anti-Terror Laws
ISLAMABAD – The Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control, on behalf of its Chairman Faisal Saleem Rehman, tabled several significant legislative reports in the Upper House on Friday. Senator Shahadat Awan presented the reports during the session, highlighting the committee’s work on a range of legal reforms.
Among the key submissions was the report on the National Occupational Health and Safety Bill, 2023, introduced by Senator Dr. Zarqa Suharwardy Taimur on November 27, 2023. The bill aims to enhance workplace safety standards across the country.
Senator Awan also presented the committee’s report on The Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2024, originally introduced by Senator Fawzia Arshad on June 10, 2024. The proposed amendment seeks to insert new sections 344B, 344C, 344D, and 344E into the historic 1898 law, aimed at improving procedural justice.
Additionally, the committee submitted its report on the Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill, 2024, introduced by Senator Palwasha Mohammed Zai Khan on September 2, 2024. The bill proposes revisions to the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, with a focus on refining legal frameworks for counter-terrorism.
Lastly, Senator Awan presented the committee’s findings on the Shamilat Land Protection Bill, 2024, also spearheaded by Senator Palwasha Khan. The bill proposes safeguarding communal Shamilat lands within Islamabad Capital Territory by repurposing them as forests, parks, playgrounds, or community centers to prevent encroachment and promote public utility.
The presentation of these reports underscores the committee’s continued commitment to legal reform and the protection of both individual rights and public resources.
