Pakistan and UK Speakers Discuss Parliamentary Cooperation and Democracy

**Pakistan, UK Speakers Meet in Geneva, Vow to Enhance Parliamentary Cooperation**
Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, met with Speaker of the UK House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, on the sidelines of the Sixth Speakers’ Conference in Geneva, where both leaders discussed ways to enhance bilateral parliamentary cooperation, promote democratic values, and address mutual interests.
During the meeting, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized the deep historical and cordial ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom. He underscored the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary relations to further fortify links between the peoples of both countries, noting that enhanced engagement between the National Assembly of Pakistan and the UK House of Commons would not only promote democratic traditions but also open new avenues in bilateral relations.
Speaker Sadiq highlighted the key role played by the Pakistani diaspora in the UK in acting as a bridge between the two nations. He noted that this vibrant community has the potential to further boost cooperation in cultural, educational, and commercial fields.
Addressing regional concerns, the Speaker brought attention to the situation in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, expressing concern over continued human rights violations by India. He asserted that resolving the Kashmir issue in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions is essential for lasting peace in the region.
Both parliamentary leaders agreed that the world is facing significant challenges, particularly democratic backsliding, human rights abuses, and threats to global peace and security. They emphasized the necessity of advancing parliamentary diplomacy to overcome these challenges and reaffirmed their shared commitment to upholding democratic values and expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation.
