Pakistan, New Zealand agree to push ahead on education, skills ties
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and New Zealand have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation in education and skills development, with a focus on practical initiatives under the Education Cooperation Arrangement signed in Wellington on August 6, 2026.
The understanding came during a meeting between the Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training and H.E. David Pine, Non-Resident High Commissioner of New Zealand to Pakistan, according to the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training.
The minister welcomed the Education Cooperation Arrangement, saying it provided a comprehensive framework for cooperation in school education, technical and vocational education and training, and higher education.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen collaboration in skills development, industry-responsive TVET, and institutional linkages between Pakistan and New Zealand. They also reviewed possible cooperation in emerging and high-growth sectors, including information technology, services and agriculture.
The minister stressed the need to convert the arrangement into concrete and sustainable initiatives that could benefit Pakistani students, educational institutions and the workforce. He said continued engagement was important to identify priority areas and develop practical programmes that support human capital development and economic growth.
H.E. David Pine reaffirmed New Zealand’s commitment to advancing mutually beneficial cooperation with Pakistan in education and skills development.
Both sides expressed their resolve to maintain close engagement and pursue practical initiatives within the framework of the Education Cooperation Arrangement.
