LAHORE (Cultural Reporter): Pakistani-origin American music producer Prem G is bringing a fresh direction to the music scene by presenting Eastern and Western melodies in a modern style.
Born in Karachi and now based in the US state of Texas, Prem G is an electronic music producer, DJ, songwriter and composer. He is working to develop a distinct place in electronic music by combining modern house music with South Asian culture, melodies and emotions.
According to Prem G, his music carries visible influences from both Pakistan and the United States. During his stay in America, he had the opportunity to closely connect with modern electronic and house music, while his link with South Asian culture remains prominent in the tunes and feelings of his work.
He has tried to bring these two musical colours together in a way that young South Asians in Pakistan, India and across the world can relate to. His music reflects the energy of the global dance floor while also carrying a desi musical touch.
Prem G’s musical projects, including Qalandar, Mera Pyar and Karachi, highlight South Asian musical elements in a contemporary electronic style. However, his aim is not limited to presenting old or popular songs in a new form. He also wants to build his own unique electronic music identity in the future.
Prem G describes his musical philosophy as “Connecting Cultures Through Electronic Music”. He believes music is a language that can connect people beyond the boundaries of geography and language.
The journey from Karachi to Texas is reflected in Prem G’s music as a blend of two different cultures. Instead of separating his Pakistani and American identities, he is making the influence of both cultures part of his artistic identity.
