Restoration Underway for Kartarpur Corridor
The Governing Council of the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur held its eighth session at the Ministry of Religious Affairs under the chairmanship of Secretary Religious Affairs Dr Sajid Mahmood Chauhan, with Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora attending in his capacity as Pardhan of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.
Representatives from the ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Defence, Law and Justice and Information and Broadcasting joined officials from the Planning Commission, Frontier Works Organisation and the Punjab Home Department to review progress and coordination on corridor matters affecting pilgrims and infrastructure.
Dr Chauhan described the Kartarpur Corridor as a symbol of humanitarian values and interfaith harmony and reiterated the government’s commitment to providing the best possible facilities to visiting Sikh yatrees and devotees. Mr Arora noted that both the federal and Punjab governments are coordinating efforts to ensure warm hospitality and seamless services for pilgrims.
The council examined repair and rehabilitation work required after recent flooding, which was attributed to Indian water aggression and affected portions of the corridor project. It was decided that damaged sections would be restored on an urgent basis and that resources and technical teams would be mobilised to accelerate the works. Urgent restoration of the flood-hit corridor was a key decision.
To ensure timely completion and oversight of the Kartarpur Corridor rehabilitation, the council resolved to reconvene within two weeks to assess progress and address any outstanding issues, signalling a focused follow-up to deliver restoration works for yatrees and local stakeholders.
