Pakistan Engineering Council signs engineer training pact

Pakistan Engineering Council has signed a landmark agreement with Chinese partners under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor to expand practical training and capacity building for Pakistani engineers. The deal commits to hands-on training, scholarships, exchange placements in China, and new language courses designed to strengthen technical skills and international collaboration.

Under the agreement, 100 Pakistani engineers will receive hands-on training at the Thar Coal Block-1 project over a five-year period. The program aims to provide practical, on-site experience in power generation and coal-based energy operations, giving participants direct exposure to large-scale project management and technical systems.

A dedicated scholarship fund of 350 million rupees will support 175 deserving students pursuing higher studies. The scholarships are intended to build a stronger pipeline of qualified engineers by easing financial barriers to advanced education in technical and engineering fields.

The collaboration also establishes exchange programs that will send Pakistani engineers to China’s energy sector for further training and professional development. Complementing these exchanges, the partners will launch online Chinese language courses to improve communication and facilitate smoother technical cooperation between Pakistani trainees and Chinese host organizations.

PEC leadership described the agreement as a milestone for practical training and international exposure. The Chairman of the Pakistan Engineering Council said the initiative will open new career pathways and enhance engineers’ skills. Engineer Waseem Nazir added that the program will play a vital role in advancing Pakistan’s energy and industrial needs by building local capacity.

The agreement was signed by Pakistan Engineering Council alongside Thar Coal Block-1 Power Generation Company, Sino Sindh Resources, and Shanghai Electric Engineering Consulting Company. The signing took place during the Prime Minister’s visit to China at a business-to-business conference, reflecting the broader CPEC partnership framework.
