Advancing National Curriculum Reform in Pakistan
A productive technical committee meeting on the National Curriculum was convened with the Honourable Minister of State Mrs. Wajeeha Qamar and Secretary MoFE&PT Mr. Nadeem Mahbub in attendance. The session was co-chaired by Dr. Nasir Mehmood, Vice Chancellor of AIOU, and brought together officials and education stakeholders from Islamabad and all federating units.
Dr. Tabassum Naz, Director NCC, presented the proposed Scheme of Studies and outlined key reforms focused on rationalisation, greater coherence across grades, and making the curriculum future ready. The presentation framed the National Curriculum changes as efforts to streamline subject sequencing and better align learning outcomes with evolving skill needs.
The Secretary engaged participants in a meaningful dialogue, with particular emphasis on a progressive shift in language policy to support learner outcomes and classroom practice. The Honourable Minister of State welcomed the direction of the reforms and reaffirmed that the initiative is moving Pakistan on the right path toward an updated and coherent curriculum framework.
Dr. Nasir Mehmood addressed concerns raised by attendees and helped ensure a balanced and inclusive discussion. Active participation from stakeholders across Islamabad, the provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan reflected strong inter-provincial collaboration, a key factor for effective rollout and implementation of the National Curriculum reforms.
