Wheat Policy Talks Between Federal and Punjab Leaders

Federal Minister for Industries and Production and for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain met Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in Lahore to discuss wheat policy, measures to strengthen strategic wheat reserves ahead of next year given recent floods, and a management strategy and roadmap to boost wheat production in the province.

The officials reviewed current wheat policy and examined options to improve strategic reserves to ensure adequate supply in the wake of recent flood-related disruptions. Strengthening reserves for the coming year was a central focus of their discussions.

They also discussed a comprehensive wheat management strategy and a roadmap aimed at improving coordination across procurement, storage and distribution to safeguard food security.

The Chief Minister outlined steps being taken by Punjab to increase wheat production, detailing provincial initiatives to enhance output and support farmers. The meeting emphasized planning and preparedness to mitigate the impact of future climate-related events on the wheat crop.
