Pakistan Moves to Strengthen Ties After BNP Victory
In Islamabad on 13 February 2026, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq extended congratulations to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its leader Tarique Rahman on their success in the general election, offering his best wishes for the incoming administration.
The speaker described the BNP victory as a clear mandate from the people of Bangladesh and said that the large majority reflects public confidence. He added that the peaceful and transparent conduct of the polls underscores the strengthening of democratic values in the country.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to deepen historical, fraternal and multidimensional ties with Bangladesh, saying that closer parliamentary cooperation and enhanced interactions between legislatures will build mutual trust and facilitate stronger bilateral engagement.
Emphasising the regional dimension, he expressed Pakistan’s desire to work closely with the new Bangladeshi government at both the public and parliamentary levels to promote people-to-people links and to advance peace, stability and development across South Asia.
