Pakistan Independence Day Celebrated in Queens New York

The Deputy Consul General of Pakistan in New York, Umar Sheikh, represented the Consulate at a special event in Queens celebrating Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day. The gathering, supported by the American Pakistani Advocacy Group and led by Ali Rashid, drew elected officials, community leaders, and a large number of Pakistani-Americans from the borough.

During the event, Mr. Sheikh congratulated attendees on the occasion and praised Queens’ legacy as a hub of diversity, inclusion, and cultural pride. He highlighted how the Pakistani-American community acts as a crucial link between Pakistan and the United States, noting their important contributions in fields such as business, education, public service, and civic life.

Mr. Sheikh dedicated this year’s Independence Day to the bravery and professionalism of Pakistan’s Armed Forces. He referenced the success of Operation “Bunyan al-Marsous” in the face of Indian aggression as evidence of Pakistan’s determined commitment and capability to defend its sovereignty. He also honored the sacrifices of martyrs, veterans, and their families, stating that their courage remains a source of national inspiration.

The celebration featured cultural performances and expressions of support for Pakistan, along with messages of encouragement from city officials. The Deputy Consul General expressed gratitude to Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr., the American Pakistani Advocacy Group, and Ali Rashid for their ongoing collaboration with the Consulate, and for fostering unity and positive representation of Pakistani-Americans in New York City.
