Driving HPV vaccine awareness at QAU
At Quaid-i-Azam University a cancer awareness seminar was held today in collaboration with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre and the Expanded Programme on Immunization Pakistan, bringing together medical experts and academic staff to discuss the role of vaccination in cancer prevention.
Dr. Soofia Yunus, Director General of the Federal Directorate of Immunization, delivered an insightful talk on the importance of the HPV vaccine for preventing cervical and other HPV-related cancers. She provided context on the background and benefits of the HPV vaccine, addressed common concerns and limitations, and explained how vaccination programs can be deployed across Pakistan to reach more young people.
Dr. Soofia emphasised that the HPV vaccine is a safe and effective measure to protect daughters and future generations, urging universities and colleges to support on-campus vaccination drives and awareness efforts for both students and staff. Her remarks highlighted the practical steps institutions can take to make vaccination accessible and build public confidence in immunization.
The collaboration between Quaid-i-Azam University, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre and the Expanded Programme on Immunization reflects a focused effort to increase HPV vaccine awareness within academic settings and to promote preventive health measures that reduce the burden of cervical cancer in Pakistan.
