Upgraded CFMS Training Builds Prosecution Capacity in Punjab

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in partnership with the Punjab Prosecution Department and Punjab Information Technology Board, has advanced efforts to strengthen the legal system in Punjab through specialized training on a newly upgraded Case Flow Management System (CFMS). This initiative aims to build a sustainable network of trainers who can further enhance the capacity of the prosecution system across the province.

During the latest Training of Trainers workshop, legal professionals from various regions of Punjab participated in sessions focused on critical features of the improved CFMS. These included training on the Line of Inquiry Module, real-time notifications, analytical dashboards, a public access portal, and a more robust mobile application. The workshop emphasized the importance of data-driven decision-making to improve coordination, transparency, and outcomes within the justice system.

A key aspect of the program is its sustainability: participants who complete the training will help deliver future workshops, ensuring lasting knowledge transfer and institutional commitment. The upgraded CFMS forms an integral part of Punjab’s broader efforts to reform the justice sector by expediting prosecution processes, reducing case backlogs, and addressing overcrowding in prisons, particularly among undertrial prisoners.

The initiative has been made possible through support from the U.S. Embassy’s Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL), reflecting ongoing international collaboration to enhance the criminal justice system in Punjab.
