Pakistan’s Campaign to End Polio and Protect Young Children

In a major push to eradicate polio, the World Health Organization (WHO) Pakistan is assisting the Government of Pakistan in a vaccination campaign mobilizing 6,000 vaccinators across seven districts of Balochistan. The initiative aims to protect more than 630,000 children under the age of five through the administration of both injectable polio vaccines and oral drops.
This collaborative campaign underscores the ongoing commitment of both WHO and the government to eliminate polio from one of the last remaining strongholds of the disease. Balochistan has traditionally faced challenges due to its remote terrain, which makes wide-scale vaccination efforts particularly critical.
By deploying thousands of vaccinators, the campaign seeks not only to provide life-saving immunizations but also to raise community awareness about the importance of disease prevention. The targeted approach is designed to reach every eligible child in the designated districts, reinforcing the message that polio is preventable.
With strong partnerships and robust mobilization on the ground, authorities hope this initiative will mark a significant step forward in Pakistan’s drive to become polio-free.
