Parliament Committee Delays Transfer of Railways Bill

A requisitioned meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Railways was held at Parliament House in Islamabad, presided over by Mr. Waseem Qadir, MNA, in the absence of the Committee Chairman in accordance with sub-rule (2) of Rule 216 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.

The Committee was scheduled to take up The Transfer of Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2025, but members noted the absence of representatives from the Pakistan People’s Party and agreed it would be appropriate to defer consideration until PPP members could attend. As a result, the meeting was adjourned without debate on the bill.

Attendees included MNAs Ibrar Ahmed, Haji Jamal Shah Kakar, Syed Waseem Hussain, Ahmed Saleem Siddiqui and Muhammad Ilyas Chaudhry, along with officers from the Railway Ministry and Pakistan Railways. The Secretary of the Committee, Muhammad Iqbal Ghauri, recorded the proceedings.

Committee members emphasized the need for full parliamentary representation to ensure thorough scrutiny of the Transfer of Railways proposals and indicated that a subsequent sitting will be convened to resume consideration once all parties are present.
