Digital Skills Training for Punjab Prosecution Department Teams

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), supported by the U.S. Embassy’s Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL), successfully organized vital IT orientation sessions for prosecutors and administrative staff of Punjab’s Prosecution Department. These training workshops in Faisalabad and Lahore aimed to bridge critical gaps in basic IT knowledge essential for efficiently handling the integrated Case Flow Management System (CFMS) and the Prisons Management Information System (PMIS), thereby improving cybersecurity and strengthening justice delivery in Punjab.
Held under the themes “Strengthening Digital Foundations for Prosecution Services” and “Handling IT Equipment and Protecting Devices,” the sessions directly addressed existing shortcomings among prosecution teams, many of whom possessed limited expertise and familiarity with essential hardware and cybersecurity fundamentals. The trainings focused specifically on equipping participants with critical skills required to confidently and effectively access, use, and maintain advanced digital case management tools.
The participants gained hands-on training on identifying and responding to common cyber threats such as phishing attacks, malware infections, ransomware incidents, and hacking attempts. Moreover, trainees learned comprehensive best practices for managing various IT devices, including laptops, printers, and other equipment critical for day-to-day operations within the department.
Emphasizing cybersecurity, the sessions also detailed essential practices such as cultivating strong passwords, deploying effective antivirus protection, maintaining safe internet browsing practices, and securely handling sensitive data. These foundational skills were designed to better protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of digital case files and sensitive prosecution-related information.
This targeted digital training significantly enhanced the technical expertise and cybersecurity awareness among prosecution staff in Punjab. By boosting foundational digital skills and promoting secure and effective use of CFMS and PMIS systems, UNODC’s initiative is crucially contributing to a more robust, efficient, and responsive criminal justice system across Punjab.
