Advancing Brick Kiln Skills for Women
SPARC has established skill development centres across Sindh and Punjab under the Empowering Bonded Labourers’ Voices and Participation project to provide vocational training for women from brick kiln communities. These centres focus on practical training designed to equip women with marketable skills and prepare them for future livelihood opportunities, strengthening their role within local economies.
The training programmes emphasize hands-on learning and linkages to next-step opportunities so that participants can translate training into sustainable income. By concentrating on brick kiln skills in a culturally sensitive setting, the centres aim to reduce vulnerability and open new pathways for economic participation for women who have limited access to formal employment.
During a recent visit to the Multan skill development centre, SPARC Founder Member Anees Jillani reviewed the facilities and met with trainees to observe progress. The visit highlighted the practical impact of locally based training and underscored the importance of continued support for programmes that build confidence and capability among women in brick kiln communities.
Local communities in both Sindh and Punjab are expected to benefit as women apply their new skills to diversify household incomes and take a more active part in community life. Continued investment in brick kiln skills training can strengthen economic resilience and expand opportunities for participation and leadership among women in these areas.
