Pakistan and Afghanistan Join Forces Against Polio

In a significant step towards eradicating polio, senior Pakistani officials and the Afghan Consul General in Karachi have agreed to strengthen joint efforts for eliminating the disease and combating refusals to polio vaccination. This collaborative commitment was reached during a high-level meeting that included MNA Iqbal Mehsud, MPA Faheem Patni, Focal Person for Polio Nadir Khilji, and Afghanistan’s Consul General Syed Abdul Jabbar Takhari, acting on the directives of Federal Minister for National Health, Syed Mustafa Kamal.

During the meeting, the officials discussed practical strategies for overcoming challenges that hinder the polio eradication campaign, particularly vaccine refusals. Both sides agreed that cross-border collaboration and a unified strategy are essential for achieving a polio-free future for both Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The Afghan Consul General praised the tireless efforts of the Pakistani Health Minister and his team, emphasizing that continued cooperation and coordinated action are vital to eliminating polio from the region. The participants reaffirmed their determination to work together closely to ensure the success of anti-polio initiatives and to protect future generations from this preventable disease.
