Pakistan Diplomacy Advances Iran US Peace Talks
Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed thanked delegates at the Global Council for Tolerance & Peace conference in Skopje after Pakistan was publicly praised for its role in promoting dialogue between Iran and the United States. The endorsement from the host country’s president and the GCTP leadership underscored Pakistan diplomacy at a crucial moment in regional relations.
The conference drew parliamentary and policy leaders from 22 countries, including the Speakers of Tanzania and Malta, along with thinkers and opinion makers from Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. Senator Mushahid met North Macedonia President Mrs Gordana Davkova, who expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s pivotal role in facilitating Iran-US talks and wished success for the mediation effort.
Ambassador Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Jarwan of the UAE, former Speaker of the Arab Parliament and president of the GCTP, commended Pakistan’s initiatives aimed at ending the Gulf conflict and hosting peace negotiations. His remarks highlighted international recognition of Pakistan diplomacy and its potential to shape a constructive outcome.
In his address to the conference, Senator Mushahid said the world is undergoing a period of Turbulence and Transformation, with the Iran War accelerating the unraveling of the Western-led order. He criticised perceived double standards in Western policy and described the failure of US-Israeli aggression against Iran as a ‘good omen’ for an emerging world order, arguing that the ‘Might is Right’ approach has lost credibility.
Briefing delegates on Pakistan’s mediation role, he described Pakistan as an ‘honest broker’ and said that peace could be within reach in a matter of weeks. He also commented on global power shifts, calling China’s rise unstoppable and noting that recent US engagements with China indicate a new acceptance of China as an equal partner in science and technology competition.
Drawing a cultural link to the host country, Senator Mushahid invoked the shared heritage of Alexander the Great and Mother Teresa and recalled his attendance as leader of the Pakistan delegation at Mother Teresa’s funeral in Calcutta in 1997. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to interfaith harmony and respect for the contributions of Christian and other non-Muslim communities to national development.
