Muzamil Triumphs at Sheheryar Malik Memorial
Muzamil Murtaza clinched the 9th Sheheryar Malik Memorial Pakistan Open Tennis Championship 2025 at the Sports Board Punjab Tennis Academy, Nishtar Park in Lahore on Sunday, overcoming Muhammad Shoaib Khan in a close final that ended 7-5, 7-5.
The seniors draws produced competitive finishes across age groups. In the Seniors 45+ doubles final Talha Waheed (Gas & Oil Pakistan) and Ashar Ali Khan edged out Hassan Said and Hadi Hussain 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 to lift the title. In the seniors 65+ doubles, the duo of Waqar Nisar and Inam-ul-Haq of National Police Academy Islamabad defeated Brig (R) Ghazanfar and Maj Saeed 7-6, 6-0 to claim the trophy.
Young talent was on display in the underage events, with Shayan Afridi beating Muhammad Aayan 4-2, 4-2 to take the boys U-12 crown. Aiman Rehan was awarded the girls U-12 title after Khadija Khalil retired at 4-1, 3-0, and Daniyal Abdullah defeated Emaan Shahbaz 6-1 to win the U-10 final. The performances underlined the depth of junior potential at the Sheheryar Malik event.
MPA Bilal Yaseen served as chief guest at the closing ceremony and distributed prizes to the champions and runners-up. Distinguished attendees included PTF President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, Manzoor Butt, senior tennis officials, players and their families. PLTA Senior Executive Vice President Rashid Malik thanked MPA Bilal Yaseen for his presence, expressed appreciation to Aisam-ul-Haq for attending the finals and acknowledged Punjab Sports Minister Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar for announcing Rs 500,000 in support of the tournament. Malik also thanked event sponsors, congratulated the champions and encouraged the runners-up to continue their efforts ahead of upcoming competitions at the Sheheryar Malik Memorial.
