Portugal Ambassador Engages Sindh and Karachi

Portugal Ambassador Frederico Silva will visit Sindh and Karachi from 21 to 26 November 2025 in a programme of diplomatic, cultural and development engagements aimed at strengthening Portugal–Pakistan cooperation. The visit was confirmed in Islamabad on 20 November 2025 and brings a mix of high-level meetings, community outreach and field visits to the province.

In Karachi the Portugal Ambassador is scheduled to meet with key political, religious and social leaders, including the Chief Minister of Sindh and the Archbishop of Karachi, and will engage with members of the Karachi Goan community and other cultural and community representatives. The itinerary includes visits to the Quaid-e-Azam Mausoleum and several historic cultural sites, alongside attendance at the World Culture Festival 2025 at the Karachi Arts Council and participation in the Adab Literary Festival.

The programme features exchanges with the business community to explore economic ties and opportunities for collaboration. Alongside diplomatic and cultural activities, the Portugal Ambassador will join field visits organised by the Aga Khan Development Network in Karachi and District Thatta to meet local communities and observe development initiatives led by AKDN agencies.

Planned stops include education and health institutions, infrastructure projects and direct interaction with students, faculty and leadership at Aga Khan Education Services, Aga Khan University and the AKU Institute for Educational Development. These visits aim to highlight ongoing partnerships in education, health and community development and to evaluate areas for further cooperation.

The visit underscores a shared interest in deepening bilateral relations through cultural exchange, development partnerships and business engagement. Observers say the Portugal Ambassador’s programme in Sindh and Karachi may pave the way for expanded cooperation in cultural and development sectors while reinforcing ties at both governmental and community levels.
