Netherlands Ambassador Strengthens Human Rights Ties

On 21 November 2025 in Islamabad, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, H.E. Robert-Jan Siegert, paid a courtesy call on the Federal Minister for Human Rights, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, to reinforce bilateral engagement on Human Rights priorities.

During the meeting both sides discussed steps to deepen cooperation and exchanged views on ongoing initiatives designed to protect and promote Human Rights across Pakistan. The Minister welcomed continued Dutch support and underlined the government’s focus on equality, inclusion and the welfare of all citizens.

The Ambassador acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts to implement its Human Rights agenda and commended constitutional guarantees, including freedom of religion and belief. Senator Tarar highlighted the country’s diverse social fabric and briefed the Ambassador on recent legislative progress, notably the introduction of the National Commission for Minorities Bill as a key measure to protect minority rights and promote interfaith harmony.

Progress under the National Action Plan on Human Rights was reviewed with emphasis on policy reforms, improved access to justice and fulfilment of international commitments. The Minister drew attention to the strengthening of human rights institutions and the role of independent bodies such as the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR), the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) and the National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC).

Protection of vulnerable groups was also discussed, including measures for women, children, senior citizens, transgender persons and persons with disabilities. Both delegations expressed their intention to maintain close coordination and a constructive dialogue to advance Human Rights priorities and foster deeper collaboration on shared concerns.
