Sustainable Solutions to Stubble Burning by EPA and Agriculture Leaders

A high-level session was convened to address the issue of stubble burning, bringing together key officials from the Environment Protection & Climate Change Department (EP&CCD) and the Agriculture Department. The meeting, chaired by EP&CCD Secretary Ms. Silwat Saeed and Director General Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, focused on exploring sustainable alternatives to stubble burning and promoting environmentally-friendly agricultural practices.
During the session, participants examined a range of alternative solutions designed to mitigate the environmental impacts of stubble burning, a significant contributor to air pollution and health hazards. The discussion also delved into ways to incentivize the adoption of modern farming equipment, particularly superseder machines, by their owners. This strategy aims to encourage farmers to manage crop residue in eco-friendly ways, rather than resorting to traditional burning methods.
The session underscored the importance of cooperation between environmental and agricultural authorities in driving the adoption of sustainable practices across the farming community. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to supporting farmers through both policy and practical support, with the ultimate goal of reducing pollution and promoting long-term environmental sustainability in the region.
