Fines Enforced at Nawaz Sharif IT City Project
The Environmental Protection Department has levied a fine of 1.5 million rupees on three construction firms working at the Nawaz Sharif IT City project after inspectors found serious breaches of environmental rules.
In a formal communication to the CEO of the Central Business District, the department said excessive dust from the site pushed air quality indices above 500 on nearby monitors, prompting immediate action to protect local residents and workers.
The companies have been ordered to remit the penalty within three days and to comply with operational controls to prevent further pollution. The directive underlines the urgency of restoring acceptable air conditions around the development.
Among the measures mandated are daily water sprinkling to suppress dust, covering construction materials in line with SOPs, and installing dust screening barriers and protective nets at the site. The Environmental Protection Department stressed these steps are essential to reducing airborne particulate matter linked to construction activity.
Officials warned that failure to follow the orders could result in more severe sanctions, including the possible sealing of the Nawaz Sharif IT City project, until compliance is verified by inspectors.
