Punjab Accelerates Health Projects Provincewide

A high-level meeting at the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department in Lahore, chaired by Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, reviewed ongoing and proposed health development projects across Punjab. Senior officials including Secretary Health Azmat Mahmood, Special Secretary Development Ahmed Kamal Mann, Additional Secretary Amira Bidar and Chief Planning Officer Fatima Noreen attended to evaluate progress and next steps.

Concerned departments presented detailed briefings on a range of initiatives. Key projects examined during the session included the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research Lahore, the Nawaz Sharif Medical District Lahore, the University of Child Health Sciences Lahore, the Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiology Gujranwala, the Maryam Nawaz Sharif Medical College and Teaching Hospital Mianwali and the Children’s Hospital Bahawalpur, among others. Officials discussed timelines, resource allocation and mechanisms to speed implementation of these health projects.

Salman Rafique described the programmes as historic initiatives worth billions of rupees that will bring quality healthcare closer to the public. He stressed that a comprehensive network of new hospitals is being established provincewide to strengthen access to specialised services and routine care alike.

Secretary Health Azmat Mahmood reaffirmed the government’s resolve to ensure timely completion of all ongoing projects. He noted that work on new initiatives is advancing rapidly and that continuous monitoring has been put in place to maintain efficiency and transparency across every stage of these health projects.

The meeting underscored provincial priorities to expand cancer, cardiology and child health services while improving overall infrastructure. Participants agreed on sustained oversight and coordination to deliver the planned facilities for communities across Lahore, Gujranwala, Mianwali, Bahawalpur and other districts.
