Empowering Students Through Youth Laptop Scheme

The Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme reached PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi on Thursday, January 29, 2026, when 450 laptops were distributed at a ceremony organized by the Directorate of Financial Assistance & University Advancement. The event was attended by Deans, Directors, faculty members and a large number of students, and was presided over by Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, Federal Minister for Railways, as chief guest, with a warm welcome from Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR.

Addressing the gathering, the Federal Minister reiterated that Digital Pakistan remains a guiding vision and that the government is committed to result-oriented initiatives that empower youth. He underlined that the Youth Laptop Scheme is implemented on the basis of transparency and merit, ensuring that every eligible student receives support to bridge the digital divide and engage in e-learning.

The minister highlighted the government’s focus on education as the foundation of national progress and said the laptops will equip students with modern tools to strengthen research, innovation and productivity in higher education institutions. He encouraged recipients to remain focused, work hard and value the guidance and support of their teachers.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor praised the Youth Laptop Scheme as a visionary programme that strengthens digital literacy and promotes quality education. Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman thanked the Federal Minister for his continued support to universities in Rawalpindi and beyond and noted that in today’s digital era a laptop is essential for learning and academic excellence.

The Vice Chancellor also noted that since the inception of the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme more than 15,000 students of PMAS-AAUR have benefited, and that the distribution of 450 laptops at this ceremony will further enhance students’ academic and research capabilities. He expressed appreciation for the government’s sustained commitment to youth empowerment through education and technology.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of laptops to qualifying students, who expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister, the Government of Pakistan and the university administration for their support under the Youth Laptop Scheme. The day reinforced the role of targeted initiatives in advancing digital literacy and expanding access to educational resources across higher education in Pakistan.
