Enhancing IDSRS Surveillance Across Pakistan

The national progress review meeting for the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response System brought together surveillance, laboratory and data management teams to assess implementation across all provinces. Chaired by Dr. Muhammad Ali Rehman, Project Director IDSRS at the National Institute of Health Islamabad, the session examined provincial surveillance data, reporting trends and operational achievements.

Provincial surveillance data and reporting trends were presented and discussed in detail, with participants analysing operational achievements alongside key implementation challenges. Coordination and liaison activities with provincial health departments were highlighted as central to closing gaps in reporting and response.

All national-level IDSRS surveillance, laboratory and data management staff participated and provided updates on their respective areas of responsibility, from specimen workflow in laboratories to data consolidation and analysis. The discussions underscored the need for clearer coordination channels and strengthened systems to enhance timeliness and data quality.

Dr. Muhammad Ali Rehman reviewed overall progress and offered strategic guidance to address identified challenges, emphasising the importance of timely reporting, effective coordination and reinforced surveillance mechanisms. Strengthening IDSRS surveillance remains a priority to improve nationwide performance and public health responsiveness.
