Special Education Advances with New Autism Center and Services

Senior government officials have visited the Rehabilitation Centre for Children with Developmental Disorders (RCCDD) in Islamabad to assess ongoing efforts and future plans for supporting children with developmental challenges. Their visit focused on the inauguration of new facilities and the review of initiatives aimed at strengthening special education in the capital.
Secretary of Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, Mr. Awais Manzur Sumra, and Special Secretary of Finance Division, Mrs. Nasheeta Maryam Mohsin, toured the RCCDD, which operates under the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training. During their visit, they inaugurated newly established spaces including Speech Therapy, Sensory Room and soft rooms, all designed to enhance the rehabilitation experience for children with special needs.
The officials also observed classroom activities tailored for children requiring specialized educational support. They reviewed the proposed site for a new Autism Center, intended to expand capacity and improve services for children on the autism spectrum.
A key part of the visit involved a detailed briefing on the recently approved PC-1 for the Autism Center. The comprehensive development roadmap includes enhanced rehabilitation services, improved infrastructure, and the recruitment of specialized professionals to better serve children with developmental disorders.
Both visiting officials praised the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to inclusive education and expressed their strong support for advancing services and facilities for children with developmental challenges in Islamabad.
