NPC President Announces Welfare Fund for Jobless Journalists

ISLAMABAD: National Press Club (NPC) Islamabad President Abdul Razzaq Sial has announced the establishment of an endowment fund for the welfare of journalists affected by the crisis in the media industry.

Speaking at a ceremony held at the NPC, Sial said the fund would be used to provide financial assistance to a large number of journalists who had lost their jobs due to the severe crisis facing the media sector.

Senior journalist Hamid Mir also announced that the amount from the welfare fund he had established would be transferred to the NPC endowment fund.

Sial said the present leadership of the NPC believed in taking practical steps for the welfare of its unemployed members, adding that the creation of the fund was evidence of this commitment.

He further said that a meeting of all factions of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) would soon be convened. He added that efforts would be made to bring all journalist organisations onto one platform to form a strong and united union for the effective defence of journalists’ rights.

The NPC president said the journalist community could resolve its problems only through unity and solidarity.
