Pakistan’s Fight Against Polio and Maternal Child Health Initiatives

Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal met with Pernille Ironside, the UNICEF Country Representative, to discuss key health issues affecting Pakistan, including population growth, maternal and child care, and the ongoing fight against polio.
During the meeting, the health minister emphasized that Pakistan and Afghanistan are currently the only two countries in the world where polio remains endemic. He announced his intention to visit Afghanistan in order to strengthen collaborative efforts between the two countries to eradicate the disease.
The minister further highlighted his ministry’s commitment to prioritizing preventive healthcare, underlining the importance of protecting people from illness before it occurs rather than focusing solely on treatment.
