The International Islamic University Islamabad hosted a seminar titled “How the Youth are Reshaping Democracy” that examined the role of young people in political change, highlighted Bangladesh’s recent democratic and economic developments, and called for deeper Pakistan–Bangladesh cooperation across political, economic and strategic fields.

The event was organized by the Directorate of Students Advisor Office at the International Islamic University Islamabad and brought together academics and experts to discuss youth engagement in democratic processes. Dr. Noor Fatima, Chairperson of the Department of Politics and International Relations, reviewed Bangladesh’s economic progress and political transformation, underscoring the interplay between economic gains and evolving political dynamics. Her remarks set the stage for a discussion on how youthful activism and civic engagement have influenced governance and policy outcomes.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Alauddin Mohammad, Executive Director of the Institute for Policy, Governance and Development (IPGAD) in Bangladesh. Dr. Mohammad paid tribute to the historical and cultural ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh and argued that young people have been pivotal in resisting oppression and catalyzing political change in Bangladesh, helping to steer the country toward sustained development.

Professor Dr. Manzoor Khan Afridi, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, thanked the guest speaker and highlighted the potential benefits of enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh. He emphasized collaboration in political, economic and strategic domains as a means to foster regional stability and mutual growth.

In closing, Dr. Ghufran reiterated that Pakistan and Bangladesh, as brotherly nations, stand to achieve greater progress by working together across South Asia, with youth engagement and cross-border collaboration central to that shared future.
