PAF Flies JF-17s to Azerbaijan for Indus Shield

A Pakistan Air Force contingent operating the advanced JF-17 Block-III fighters and a complement of air and ground crew has landed in Azerbaijan to participate in the bilateral aerial combat exercise Indus Shield Alpha.

PAF pilots executed a nonstop long-range flight from their home base in Pakistan to Azerbaijan, conducting precision in-flight air-to-air refuelling with the service’s own IL-78 tanker. The complex mid-air operation highlighted the extended reach of the JF-17 fleet and underscored the aircrews’ technical skill and operational endurance during sustained international deployments.

Indus Shield Alpha aims to deepen mutual understanding, sharpen tactical coordination and improve interoperability between the two brotherly air forces. The exercise will concentrate on modern aerial warfare tactics, joint mission planning and execution in a rapidly evolving technological landscape, while providing a platform for exchanging operational insights and coordinated responses to emerging aerial defence challenges.

The PAF contingent’s participation reaffirms Pakistan Air Force commitment to regional stability and international military cooperation. This deployment demonstrates the service’s readiness to adapt to contemporary airpower demands, sustain extended operations abroad and maintain professional excellence across air and ground domains.
