Rawalpindi Ring Road Advances Rapidly

Work on the Rawalpindi Ring Road is progressing at pace following directions from Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, with the Rawalpindi Development Authority reporting significant progress on the mega project. The DG RDA, Kinza Murtaza, confirmed that more than 75% of the work has been completed and noted that completion would have exceeded 85% if not for temporary interruptions caused by heavy rains and flood-like conditions.

During a detailed briefing to RDA leadership, Project Manager Lt. Col. Fazal Khan outlined the current status and next steps for the Rawalpindi Ring Road, with execution led by the Frontier Works Organization. The DG RDA commended the FWO for its professional performance and said the project remains on track under strict supervision.

The authority emphasized that the project cost stands at approximately Rs 35 billion and is being delivered without adding any extra burden to the national exchequer. The DG RDA reiterated that all work is progressing within the financial commitments approved at the start, with no new expenditures or cost overruns authorized.

Once complete, the Rawalpindi Ring Road is expected to ease traffic congestion across the twin cities and surrounding areas and provide a faster route for travellers moving between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. Officials say the route will cut journey times by around 35 minutes for commuters heading to Islamabad International Airport and will ensure direct connectivity between the Motorway and the GT Road.

Plans for the next stage are already in motion, with a feasibility study for Phase II underway and preparations to launch that phase soon. The DG RDA stressed that the entire Ring Road programme is being executed with full transparency to prevent irregularities or corruption and to safeguard public funds.
