Portugal Brings Portuguese Cinema to EUFF Pakistan
The Embassy of Portugal in Islamabad will participate in the fourth edition of the European Film Festival 2025, showcasing two notable works of Portuguese cinema for audiences in Islamabad and Karachi.
A Sea of Trash (directed by Tânia Paiva, 2019) is an inspiring short environmental documentary that follows Portugal’s volunteer initiative “Sea’s Brigade” as they clean 45 kilometres of coastline. The film highlights marine pollution and the power of community action and will be screened in Islamabad on 7–8 November 2025 at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts.
The feature film Snu (directed by Patrícia Sequeira, 2019) recounts the true story of Snu Abecassis and Francisco Sá Carneiro, a couple who risked everything for love and political ideals in post-revolutionary Portugal. This historical drama and romance will be presented in Karachi on 16 November 2025 at the Karachi Film School.
The European Film Festival 2025, organised by the EU Delegation in Pakistan, runs across Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore from 7 to 23 November 2025. Screenings will take place at PNCA Islamabad, the Karachi Film School and the Alhamra Arts Council in Lahore, with a programme that includes award-winning feature films, documentaries and short features. The embassy’s selections offer Pakistani audiences both an environmental call to action and a poignant historical tale, underlining the range and relevance of Portuguese cinema on an international festival platform.
