Shaping Pakistan COP30 Strategy on Climate Finance
Parliamentary Secretary Barrister Danyal Chaudhry chaired a high-level parliamentary briefing in Islamabad to devise Pakistan’s approach ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference, focusing on a cohesive COP30 strategy and actionable steps to access climate finance.
Barrister Danyal Chaudhry underlined that integrating climate resilience with economic stability is non-negotiable, and stressed the urgent need for a unified national stance to protect Pakistan’s interests internationally. He called for specialized parliamentary committees to exercise rigorous oversight to ensure accountable use of climate finance and effective policy implementation.
The meeting brought together key parliamentarians and stakeholders including Ms. Zeb Jaffar, Parliamentary Secretary Ministry of Defence; Mr. Pullain Baloch, Chairman Standing Committee on Information & Broadcasting; Dr. Shezra Mansab Ali Khan Kharal, Minister of State for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination; Ms. Shaista Pervaiz, Convenor of the National Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs; and Ms. Farah Naz Akbar, Parliamentary Secretary for the National Heritage and Culture Division, alongside climate experts and international partners.
Participants focused on practical measures to strengthen institutional capacity, enhance transparency in climate finance flows, and align national economic priorities with climate commitments. The emphasis on parliamentary oversight aims to ensure that funds secured under the COP30 strategy deliver measurable resilience and development outcomes for vulnerable communities across Pakistan.
The briefing, convened by the Parliamentary Forum on Energy and Economy with relevant standing committees, sought to harness expert inputs and parliamentary experience in shaping a robust negotiating position for COP30 that safeguards Pakistan’s climate and economic interests.
