Pakistan’s Climate Action Efforts for Food Security and Water Efficiency

Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik met with officers of the 38th Senior Management Course to discuss Pakistan’s strategies for confronting climate change, especially its impact on agriculture and food security. The session focused on the country’s ongoing efforts to mitigate and adapt to environmental challenges, with an emphasis on resilience and sustainability in sectors most affected by climate change.
Dr. Malik outlined major initiatives led by the Ministry to reduce the vulnerability of agriculture and secure sustainable food systems for Pakistan’s growing population. He pointed out the significant challenges posed by water scarcity and low water productivity, noting their direct effect on food security across the country.
The Minister called for innovative and locally adapted solutions to boost water efficiency and agricultural output. He stressed the importance of practical actions at the tehsil and district levels that empower local administration and communities to address climate impacts directly.
During the meeting, participants discussed how local efforts are essential for achieving national climate resilience and food security targets. Dr. Malik emphasized that involving local stakeholders in the implementation of adaptation measures is crucial for the overall success of Pakistan’s climate and environmental goals.
