Driving Climate Action at Pakistan Pre COP30
The Pakistan Red Crescent Society partnered with the German Red Cross to host the Pakistan Pre COP30 National Dialogue at PRCS National Headquarters, focusing on translating climate policy into tangible practice. The event brought together humanitarian and policy actors to refine Pakistan’s position ahead of COP30 in Brazil and to strengthen cooperation across national and international networks.
Senator Sherry Rehman, Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change, attended as the chief guest and emphasised the need for actionable plans that reflect Pakistan’s lived climate realities. Mrs. Farzhana Naek, Chairperson of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, highlighted the organisation’s role in bridging community needs with policy frameworks and preparing vulnerable populations for climate risks.
Delegates included representatives from the Turkish Red Crescent, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Norwegian Red Cross, the IFRC and the German Red Cross, alongside climate experts, PRCS staff, volunteers and students. Participants exchanged perspectives on moving from high-level commitments to local implementation, reinforcing the idea that coordinated humanitarian and policy responses are essential for resilience-building across Pakistan.
The dialogue under the theme From Policy to Practice – Pakistan’s Voice for COP30 (Brazil) aimed to produce actionable recommendations and strengthen networks that can carry Pakistan’s priorities into international negotiations. By centring community experience and technical expertise, the meeting sought to ensure that Pakistan’s contributions to COP30 are rooted in practical, scalable solutions that protect lives and livelihoods.
