Minister Kamal conveyed deep concern over Pakistan’s rapidly increasing population, describing it as a severe challenge. He underscored that uncontrolled population growth has negatively impacted planning and developmental strategies. According to Minister Kamal, Pakistan is projected to become the fourth-largest country globally by population by 2030.
To address this urgent issue, the Health Minister stressed the need to reduce the prevailing fertility rate of 3.6% down to 2%. Kamal pointed out that sustained awareness campaigns and effective family planning programs are imperative to achieve population stability, paving the way for better resource management and living standards.
Discussing water safety, Minister Kamal mentioned the absence of an effective sewage treatment system nationwide, citing alarming statistics that approximately 68% of diseases in Pakistan are waterborne, caused primarily by the consumption of contaminated water. He declared the provision of clean drinking water as the government’s top priority, adding that a comprehensive sewage treatment infrastructure is currently being introduced to improve water quality and public health.
The minister further highlighted the existing weaknesses in Pakistan’s primary healthcare system. He announced the strengthening of primary healthcare through telemedicine initiatives, enabling easy, inexpensive, and efficient access to medical experts and medicines directly at people’s doorsteps. This step aims to alleviate increasing pressures on major hospitals, which currently face growing patient loads daily.
Minister Kamal reiterated the importance of a preventive healthcare approach, stating, “Prevention is better than cure. Our goal is to prevent diseases from taking hold in the first place.” He confirmed the creation of a comprehensive roadmap intended to build a stronger, more effective, and more resilient healthcare system.
