IHC Summons PCB Secretary Over Journalist Accreditation Issue

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned the Secretary of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in a personal capacity regarding the denial of accreditation to sports journalists.

The court issued the notice after a petition was filed by several senior journalists in Islamabad who claimed they were prevented from covering cricket event.

Justice Babar Sattar, who presided over the hearing, emphasized that media coverage and analysis are fundamental rights protected under the Constitution.

He remarked that journalists have the right to report on and analyze sporting events, and any attempt to hinder this is a violation of their constitutional rights.

Senior lawyer, Abdul Wahid Qureshi, appeared on behalf of the journalists. He argued that the decision of PCB not to issue accreditation was unjustified and impeded the free flow of information.

The court questioned the reasoning of the cricket authority for denying accreditation and sought an explanation from the management to.

Justice Sattar stressed the importance of transparency and accountability, stating that the press plays a crucial role in holding organizations like the PCB accountable.

The Hight Court adjourned the hearing till tomorrow, giving the cricket board a day to present its case and provide a satisfactory explanation for its actions.
