Boosting Non Formal Education Teacher Skills

Secretary Federal Education Mr. Nadeem Mahbub visited the cluster-level teacher training in Tarlai, Islamabad, underscoring the government’s resolve to improve learning outcomes for out-of-school children through strengthened teacher capacity. The visit focused on practical steps to equip educators working in non-formal settings with classroom-ready skills.

Under the Non Formal Education roadmap for the Islamabad Capital Territory, a cascading training model has been adopted to ensure consistent quality across grassroots institutions. Following a Training of Trainers phase, cluster-level sessions are being held across ICT so that the benefits of the program reach teachers directly in their communities.

During the four-day training, the Secretary observed sessions and spoke with Master Trainers and trainee teachers. The DG NCHD briefed him on the objectives, methodology and schedule of the cascade model, highlighting hands-on activities and classroom simulations designed to support teachers in multigrade and resource-constrained environments.

Mr. Mahbub emphasized that teacher development is central to raising Non Formal Education standards, reducing learning poverty and widening equitable access for children in underserved and remote areas. He urged teachers to adopt modern pedagogical techniques, child-centered approaches, multigrade teaching strategies and effective classroom management to improve retention and learning outcomes.

The Secretary directed organisers to keep the curriculum focused on immediate classroom application so teachers can implement new skills without delay. He praised the collaborative efforts of the National Commission for Human Development, National Education Foundation, Basic Education Community Schools, Pakistan Institute of Education and the Japan International Cooperation Agency, and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to making Non Formal Education a key pillar of Pakistan’s education strategy.
