Islamabad Auctions Six Temporary Cattle Markets
Islamabad has auctioned six temporary cattle markets for a combined value of Rs349.5 million, with authorities announcing a cashless system to regulate transactions and improve transparency in cattle markets.
The largest allocation was the Sector I-12 site which fetched Rs200.1 million, followed by the Sangjani location at Rs62.5 million. The site near Zia Mosque was auctioned for Rs50 million, the Sultana Foundation location for Rs25 million, Japan Road for Rs6.2 million and Bahar A Kahu for Rs6.1 million, bringing the total to Rs349.5 million.
Officials said the auction process was conducted on merit and with full transparency, and attracted vigorous participation from 104 bidders. Authorities also reported about a 120 percent increase in auction proceeds compared with the previous year, reflecting growing competition for designated market sites.
The District Municipal Administration has been instructed to maintain close surveillance to prevent illegal cattle markets across the city, while the Capital Development Authority under Chief Commissioner Sohail Ashraf has pledged strict enforcement of a zero tolerance policy against unauthorised markets. The move to establish cashless cattle markets aims to protect public convenience, uphold hygiene standards and help preserve the city’s cleanliness during the sacrificial season.
