Rawalpindi Sugar Crisis: Committee Decisions on Price Control

**Rawalpindi District Price Control Committee Takes Steps to Tackle Sugar Crisis and Stabilize Commodity Prices**
The Rawalpindi District Price Control Committee convened a key meeting to address the ongoing sugar crisis and establish new measures for managing the prices of essential commodities. The meeting, chaired by acting Chairman Khawaja Shehzad and Additional Deputy Commissioner General Dr. Hassan Tariq, resulted in several important decisions aimed at providing relief to the public and curbing inflation.
Committee members agreed to institute strict monitoring of wholesalers to ensure that sugar is sold at official government rates. This move intends to prevent price gouging and secure a steady supply of sugar in the local markets. Additionally, the committee discussed and set new prices for lentils, rice, and various other staple items, with a firm commitment to pass on benefits to consumers.
In a bid to boost civil society representation, the committee welcomed new members, including Abid Abbasi, who presented several proposals during the session. The committee also recommended that DC counters should maintain the availability of quality goods and suggested holding monthly meetings for continued oversight and improvement.
To further streamline sugar distribution, a sub-committee was established to ensure regular supplies to grocery stores across the district. The participants unanimously endorsed the committee’s anti-inflation measures and expressed their support for policies aimed at controlling prices and providing relief to citizens.
These steps signal the district administration’s resolve to confront the sugar crisis and address broader price stability for everyday goods, reinforcing its commitment to serving Rawalpindi’s residents amid economic challenges.
