Celebrating Benazir Bhutto’s Legacy in Rawalpindi
Shahida Rahmani and Samina Khalid Ghurki paid a heartfelt tribute to Benazir Bhutto at a prayer gathering organized by the Pakistan Peoples Party Rawalpindi Divisional Women Wing on her birthday. They said Benazir Bhutto‘s services will always be remembered and highlighted her many steps to bring women into the national mainstream.
Speakers including Shagufta Butt, Samira Gul, Hafsa Bukhari, Saadia Abbasi and Azra Yunus discussed the landmark laws and initiatives introduced during Benazir Bhutto‘s tenure, calling the Women Bank, women police stations and other historic measures a lasting gift to Pakistani women. They described recent successes for the party in Gilgit as a consequence of those sacrifices.
The speakers recalled that Benazir Bhutto consistently championed the cause of the poor and middle classes and sacrificed for democracy, saying those sacrifices will not be wasted. They praised the Bhutto family’s contributions as foundational to the democratic gains the country now enjoys.
Expressing confidence in the party’s unity under Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the women leaders said the PPP remains the voice of the disadvantaged. They voiced the hope that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will become Prime Minister and that his leadership will help address inflation and economic pressures affecting ordinary Pakistanis.
The ceremony concluded with special prayers for the soul of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, as party workers and women leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continue her work for women and the poor.
